We’ve all seen it play out before: Fun girl. Loves to be social and spend time with friends, old and new. Fun girl meets not so fun boy. Boy influences fun girl who very quickly becomes not so fun girl.
The frequency that this little anecdote occurs is somewhat astounding. Why, oh…
Oh… yea, this happens people! LETS ALL JUST BE FUN, OKTHANKSBYE
I don’t know how I became a huge fan of hugs since none of my grandparents or parents were or ever have been big on hugging. We’re not really big on showing displays of affection, in my family there’s nothing a joke or a beer can’t solve.
I’ve heard in passing before about this Free Hugs Campaign, and a teacher just passed this along to our culture and community class. It’s a very interesting concept. Just think about that one day when all you needed was just a hug, just to feel a little love.
I’m not encouraging you to go out with a sign and hug strangers, but just think about the next time someone you know just might be in need of a good squeeze!

For one of my classes (Culture, Community and Communication) our teacher asked us to volunteer our time and submerge ourselves in a community and do some ethnographic work. I chose to spend my time Garden State Equality. I have sat in on a powerful panel of attorneys, psychologists and activists all fighting to end bullying in New Jersey schools. It is such a terrible problem that exists, and has been happening for far too long in our country’s culture. Can’t wait we all just get along?
I think we all have a responsibility to teach children what is right. We need to be role models and set the precedent. No kid should ever feel sad about who they are or not want to go to school because they are afraid. All kids should know in time it gets better but it simply can’t unless we all do our part.

Elizabeth Taylor was classically beautiful and just stunning. I think she lived a great life, I thought she would be around forever but I guess a good thing never lasts. She also was a great advocate for those suffering with HIV/AIDS. I think all celebrities should fight for a cause, and I’m glad she was one of them.
